Ford Otosan, one of the leading companies of the Turkish automotive industry and organized by our union Türk Metal, announced to the public the most important stage of its new investment of 20.5 billion TL, which it envisions to realize in Kocaeli Plants, at the Presidential Palace today (16.03.2021).The meeting was held with the participation of President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Vice President Fuat Oktay, Minister of Industry and Technology Mustafa Varank, Koç Holding Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of Ford Otosan Ali Koç, Ford Europe President Stuart Rowley and Ford Otosan General Manager Haydar Yenigün, Pevrul Kavlak General Secretary of TÜRK-İŞ and General President of our union also attended.
Speaking at the signing ceremony held for the investment that Ford Otosan envisions to realize in Kocaeli Plants, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Ford Otosan has revealed a great vision that will spread over 10 years with these investments that will enable the Turkish automotive industry to develop with electric and similar vehicles. Ali Y. Koç, Deputy Chairman of Koç Holding Board of Directors and Chairman of Ford Otosan, said:
"In a stage of uncertainty created by the pandemic and in a period when everyone avoids investment, making the biggest automotive investment in our history is the greatest proof of our community and our partner's belief in our country."
The vehicles that are planned to be produced in Ford Otosan factories in Kocaeli will have fully electric, hybrid, electric and diesel engines. Commercial vehicle production capacity in the factory, most of which is for export, will increase from 440 thousand to 650 thousand by December. In addition, at the factory, where 130 thousand battery assembly capacity will be reached, the employment of over 12 thousand people will increase to 15 thousand people with an additional 3 thousand people. In addition, it is aimed to create a total of 18 thousand new jobs, with the projection of an additional 15 thousand people in the supply chains industry. When the investment is completed Turkey's increasing importance in the production of electric commercial vehicles, also it envisions the transformation of Ford's electric commercial vehicle production base. Ford Otosan, in which Koç Holding is a partner, will start production of one-ton medium commercial vehicle for its other partner Ford Motor Company and Volkswagen in the Kocaeli plant in the first half of 2023.
