About Us
Our union Türk Metal, continues its union struggle across numerous major workplaces in the automotive, white goods, electronics, iron and steel, and subsidiary industries, guided by the principle of “We want to produce, to earn, and to help others earn.” With its constructive approach to industrial relations, Türk Metal has played a significant role in the development and advancement of Türkiye’s industrial sector to its current position.
Our union continues its struggle for a Türkiye where metal workers receive the full value of their labor, where industrial peace is ensured through fair distribution, and where development is driven by production and hope for the future. Ensuring job security for metal workers, maintaining production under safe and healthy working conditions, and improving workers’ wages and social rights are among the fundamental duties of Türk Metal.
Within the framework of its “New Generation Unionism” approach, our union, Türk Metal, consistently provides its members and their families with various social opportunities. Through its facilities located across many regions of Türkiye and in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Türk Metal also contributes to enriching the social lives of its members.
Our union aims to strengthen the sense of solidarity among its members and to raise awareness through its traditional congresses and programs. In this context, Türk Metal organizes the Grand Women Workers’ Convention on March 8, International Women’s Day, and the Grand Congress of Young Workers on May 19, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
With the aim of providing better educational and future opportunities for the children of its members, our union established the Metal Children’s Friendship Club. Through initiatives such as the Children’s Assemblies and the “Workers’ Children Around the World Project,” Türk Metal has become the first union to connect the children of its members with those from sister countries. In addition, the union provides scholarships and accommodation opportunities to thousands of member children pursuing higher education at universities.
Our union, Türk Metal, places great importance on the education of its members and on keeping them informed about current developments. Through the educational campaign it launched in the 1990s, Türk Metal has provided training to hundreds of thousands of members on a wide range of topics. As part of these efforts, the Joint Training Project—initiated in 2000—marked the first collaboration in Türkiye between a workers’ union and an employers’ union for the purpose of workers’ education. This pioneering initiative was also recognized and awarded by the International Labour Organization (ILO). Through this project, Türk Metal has offered training opportunities to hundreds of thousands of its members to date. Furthermore, the union established the Türk Metal Academy, launching its training programs in 2024 with the aim of preparing its members for the future in a more educated and well-equipped manner, updating their union knowledge, and introducing them to new-generation communication skills.
Through the activities of the Türk Metal Research and Training Center (TAEM), our union brings together the academic and trade union spheres by organizing Akad’emek Student Congresses and publishing various academic and sectoral works. In addition, internship and employment opportunities are provided to students within this framework.
The primary goal of the Türk Metal family is to ensure that labor receives the value it truly deserves. Having achieved remarkable success in its collective bargaining agreements, our union, Türk Metal, continues to protect and advance the rights and interests of its members through exemplary agreements that set a standard for nearly all actors within the industrial relations system.
Our union, Türk Metal, attaches great importance to international solidarity among trade unions. It is a founding member of the International Eurasian Metal Workers’ Federation, representing more than 10 million members. Türk Metal is also affiliated with IndustriALL Global Union, the global federation representing industrial sector unions in 140 countries, and with IndustriALL Europe, which unites industrial unions across 38 European countries. In addition, Türk Metal is one of the organizers of the Euro-Mediterranean Permanent Conference, which brings together unions from European and Balkan countries.
