Our Bursa Osmangazi Branch, Akwel Bursa Turkey Otomotiv A.Ş., operating in Bursa

Nilüfer Organized Industrial Zone. By completing the organizational work in the

workplace, applied forAuthorization Certificate to the Ministry of Family, Labor

and Social Services on 19 December 2019. With the letter dated 24 December 2019,

the Ministry had conveyed the Authorization Certificate to our union and other

relevant places, stating that our union Turkish Metal Workers’

Union at the Akwel Bursa workplace provided the majority required by law.During the organizing process of our Bursa Osmangazi Branch in the last period of2019, Akwel Bursa, the employer side, ended the work of two of our union members.The employer side also objected to our union's authorization.Akwel Bursa employer has been carrying out pressure and intimidation practices forAkwel Bursa employees in order to prevent organization since the first day our unionstarted to struggle for organization. Akwel Bursa employer, who has increased thesepressures a little more every day, finally ended the job of our friend Hasan Ünlü, whowas a member of our union using the most basic constitutional right, as of the morning(22.01.2020). Akwel employees, who just wanted to pay for their labor and sweat,started actions at the factory as of yesterday morning to stop the pressure of theemployer side. In this context, Akwel employees stated that they will use their powerfrom production until their laid-off friends are hired again and they will continue theseactions in three shifts throughout the day.While the struggle of Akwel Bursa employees in the factory continues resolutely, manyof our members from the workplaces we organize in Bursa also support Akwel employeesin front of the factory.While the struggle to organize in Gebze Dilovası Branch's factory in the samegroup in Gebze continues, our union Turkish Metal Workers’ Union has brought theanti-union attitude of the French-owned Akwel employer to the international platform.While the organizational problems in Bursa and Gebze were expressed at variousmeetings of IndustriALL Global Union, our initiatives continue in France with the MetalWorkers Union affiliated to the French CGT Confederation organized in Akwel, France.
